How a walk in shower can be built.

Donnie D . here. Today I will discuss with you the ways a walk in shower can be built in 2023 in spotswood new jersey.

1. Water in water out system. ( shower base or pan liner ). This method still works to this day. That said it can be done wrong easily. Most showers I rip out are build this way and have failed or never was done correctly from the start. Here is a photo where the client had someone install a liner, that was done incorrectly and I had to remove and re-start.

Here is a shower that was built with no waterproofing at all. It was a complete failure, with the water coming into the bedroom under the shower wall.

2. A topical waterproofing membrane with waterproof foam wall boards. You can use a sheet membrane, which is like a wall paper or a liquid paint on membrane. The sheet membrane is vapor tight while the liquid one is not. Here is a steam shower that utilized all sheet membrane with foam wall boards. Here is a example below

These are the current methods. Which ever method you choose or your contractors chooses. Make certain that they are done correctly. Other wise a shower leak will result in worse problems than a roof leak in less time!
