The basement shower failure

This shower according to the client was build about 10-15 years ago. Little did the client know that it could have been leaking the entire time since it was built. The framing was all wrong on the ceiling area which is below the stairs to the basement and the vertical wall below it. Even the wall where the 2x4’s were mounted to the concrete block wall, the nails the previous contractor use barely went into the concrete block I mean maybe a 1/4” at most. On top of that due to all the waterproofing failures the wood stud were molding out down low around the first 3’. I had to re Fram most of the shower in order to make it tile ready. The contractor used 1/2'“ Hardie board for the walls with NO I mean No waterproofing at all on the walls. For the shower floor they used some kind of paint on fiberglass which didn’t work, which no pre pitch under. Every time they would take a shower the mortar bed will get wet and stay wet since below it the substrate is flat. I mean the 3 piece drain they used where the bolts usually tie into a vinyl linear were completely rusted out. I mean bad I was lucky enough to get them out with some wd-40. Since Schluter systems make a adaptor kit for this kind of drain a standard 3 piece drain. I was able to tie into it and not have to jack up the concrete slab. Which saved the some money and alot of mess. From there I rebuilt this shower the proper way and did a flood test to ensure there was no leaks before any tile got up. This is a important step that a lot of contractors will not do. I build my shower to last a lifetime, I am not in this business just to make a living but to serve clients to the best of my abilities and give them a tile job that will a Long time.

Over 100 hours into this shower and bathroom floor. I also did the door and base molding.
